Glendale Police Advisory Council Meeting – November 17, 2008:
The first meeting of the council met with Captain Palmer representing the Police Department.
Glendale Police Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon – November 13, 2008:
The event was attended by A/Chief De Pompa, Captain Nicolaisen, Edey and Rock.
Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner – November 6, 2008:
Sgt. Anderson was honored as the Officer of the Year. Captain Rock attended the event.
POLICE RELATED INCIDENTS
Robbery – Sunday, November 16, 2008:
The victim was walking near Davis and San Fernando Rd. when he was robbed at gunpoint by four males wearing bandanas around their faces. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and stole the victim’s gold necklace. The victim was able to write down the suspect license plate as the vehicle left the area. The suspect vehicle was described as a gray Saturn with tinted windows. The investigation into the registered owners address revealed that the license plate on the suspect vehicle was stolen from a similar vehicle on Perlita Street in Los Angeles. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Burglary – Sunday, November 16, 2008:
Officers responded to the Oakmont Country Club regarding a possible trespass. Officer Mercado contacts one suspect hiding in a vehicle on Greenmont. During the investigation it is determined that the suspects were there to commit a burglary. A search of the perimeter results in 6 spools of wire containing copper being recovered. One suspect is in custody and two additional suspects outstanding. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Shot Fired – Friday, November 14, 2008:
Officers responded Code 3 to the area of Verdugo and Acacia regarding numerous calls of shots fired in the area. Officers learned the shooting most likely occurred near Windsor Mini Park. After searching the area, four shell casings were located on the street and sidewalk area adjacent to the park. The area was checked for victim(s) with negative results. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Gun Shot Victim – Thursday, November 13, 2008:
A 17 year old male arrived at Verdugo Hills ER with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim claimed he was shot in the area of Balboa and Glenvia in Glendale. There were no reports of shots fired in the area. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Robbery – Wednesday, November 12, 2008:
Officers responded to the 1100 block of Brand Blvd. regarding a robbery that had just occurred. The suspect, 20-30 year old male, entered through the rear door. The suspect ordered the victim to lie on the floor. The total loss was $2300. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Burglary – Tuesday, November 11, 2008:
Officers responded to the 6302 San Fernando Rd. at Argishti Bakery regarding a burglary. Officers determined that an unknown male entered the business and began searching through business records and credit card information before being discovered by an employee. The employee attempted to detain the male but he broke free and ran into the rear alley. Witnesses saw the male enter the passenger seat of a waiting vehicle described as a white Ford SUV. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Robbery – Sunday, November 9, 2008:
Officers responded to the 1100 block of North Pacific regarding a robbery that had just occurred. The victim was walking southbound on Pacific approaching Palm when he was confronted by three male suspects walking northbound. One of the suspects grabbed the victim around the neck while the other two suspects searched the victim’s pockets. The suspects fled with the victim’s cell phone, Rolex watch and a gold ring and were last seen running northbound on Pacific. During the struggle the victim suffered a contusion on his right cheek.
While checking the area for the outstanding suspects, Officers were flagged down near Stocker and Concord regarding a second robbery that had just occurred. A female victim had just exited her vehicle at Stocker and Concord with her purse in her right hand when she was confronted by three males, one carrying a knife. The suspect with the knife demanded the victim’s purse. The victim ran northbound on Concord and hid in a driveway. The victim retained possession of her purse and was not injured during the confrontation. The suspects fled the area in an unknown direction. It appears based on the suspect’s description, time and close proximity that both robberies are related. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Assault on Officer – Friday, November 7, 2008:
Officer Tarzia conducted a traffic stop at the 300 block of North Brand Blvd. for a seat belt violation. He contacted the driver and requested documentation. The driver was a parolee. Officer Tarzia opened the driver’s door to have the driver exit the vehicle. The driver turned on the ignition. revved the engine, and drove off, leaving over 45 feet of skid marks. The vehicle continued southbound on Brand to Colorado. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Update: The suspect called and spoke with Detective Kmbikyan. The suspect was advised to turn himself in. The suspect came to the front desk of the Glendale Police Department and was taken into custody with no incident.
Burglary – Thursday, November 6, 2008:
An officer saw a parked occupied vehicle at Windsor and Los Angeles. The officer made consensual contact with the occupants of the vehicle. The 19 year old male was in possession of spark plug chips and identity belonging to a female. Officers made contact with the female. The female stated she was the victim of a vehicle burglary last week at Bally’ in Studio City. The suspect was arrested for burglary.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Wednesday, November 5, 2008:
Units responded to the 500 block of South Glendale regarding a fight call involving three males, two males were reported to be northbound on Glendale and were contacted by responding units. The field investigation revealed a stabbing had occurred and one of the males was wounded several times in the abdomen. The victim was transported to County General Hospital where he was treated for a puncture wound, a collapsed lung and numerous cuts to the head. The victim was stabilized and remained in the hospital over night for observation. A perimeter was set and the location was checked for the suspect. The suspect eventually turned himself over to the police at the scene of the crime. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
TRAFFIC RELATED INCIDENTS
Traffic Collision / Pedestrian Struck – Sunday, November 16, 2008:
Officers responded to the 500 block of East Lomita regarding a pedestrian who reported having been struck by a vehicle. On arrival they found that a resident of the building was complaining that his roommate drove over his foot while traveling through the buildings driveway. The pedestrian was intoxicated. The driver believes he did not strike the pedestrian. The pedestrian refused any treatment by GFD.
Traffic Collision / Pedestrian Struck – Sunday, November 16, 2008:
A 72 year old female pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk northbound on Dunsmore Ave. A 59 year old male was making a left turn from southbound Ave. to eastbound Honolulu Ave. striking the pedestrian to the ground. The pedestrian complained of pain to her neck and back. The pedestrian was transported to USC Medical Center.
Traffic Collision – Saturday, November 15, 2008:
An 18 year old driver was ejected out of his vehicle on the 134 Fwy / Harvey Drive. He was the solo vehicle of the traffic collision. He was transported to Huntington Memorial where he was pronounced.
Traffic Collision / Hit and Run – Thursday, November 13, 2008:
Officers responded to Stanley at Verdugo regarding a hit and run that had just occurred. A vehicle struck two vehicles, a light pole and then an apartment building. Witnesses said the driver and the passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot and were last seen running westbound on California. Officer’s investigation determined the vehicle was stolen. The stolen vehicle took out a load bearing support pillar in the carport area of the apartment building. The unit affected was evacuated. Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation.
Traffic Collision – Thursday, November 13, 2008:
A 66 year old male pedestrian was eastbound on an unmarked crosswalk at Pacific and Arden. A 25 year old female was driving southbound in the #1 lane at Pacific about 20-25 mph. The driver did not see the pedestrian until the right front of her car collided with the pedestrian. The pedestrian was knocked to the ground and was possibly unconscious momentarily. He suffered abrasions to his feet and legs. GFD transported the male to Los Angeles County Medical Center.
Traffic Collision – Tuesday, November 11, 2008:
A 48 year old male bicyclist lost control of his bike while riding southbound on Canada Blvd. just south of Menlo and hit a curb and fell. There were no motor vehicles involved. The man had minor injuries. The man did not require hospitalization.
Traffic Collision – Saturday, November 8, 2008:
Officers responded to the 400 block of Nolan regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle crashing into a residence. GFD was on scene and determined that the house was habitable. The female driver was arrested for DUI.
Traffic Collision / Pedestrian Struck - Saturday, November 8, 2008:
A 45 year old female was parked at the south end of the Mobil Gas Station at 301 S. Verdugo Rd. when she began to back up her vehicle she struck a 52 year old female pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained abrasions to her right elbow, knee and foot. She was transported to Glendale Adventist Hospital.
