Though the car’s name was contrived with no meaning, GM researchers reportedly found the word in a French dictionary as a slang term for "friend" or "companion" In some automotive periodicals before official release, it was code-named "Panther." Historical examples exist of Chevrolet product managers being asked by the automotive press "what is a Camaro?", with the tongue-in-cheek answer being "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs," a sideways reference to the competing Ford Mustang. While the Camaro was never the flagship for Chevrolet, it was for many years one of its most popular models. In 1990 Mike's dad purchased this Camaro with the intentions of returning it to it's former glory. Unfortunately, restorations on this classic automobile stalled after rebuilding the motor and brakes. In 2013 Mike's dad gifted the car to his son with only one request, that Mike restore the car and keep it in the family. The once proud muscle car patiently waited until finally it was time to shine again. And shine it did, at Glendale Cruise Night (Mike's favorite car show)18 months after restoration part 2 began. It always impresses and draws a lot of attention from the nostalgic on looker who has fond memories of their own history with the classic Camaro. Mike's dad truly uncovered and saved a diamond in the rough. Thanks to him and Mike, this Camaro has become a staple during Glendale Cruise Night and we can look forward to seeing it at the event for years to come.
